Woman collapses in Eastbourne Arndale Centre

An ambulance was called to the Arndale Centre in Eastbourne after a woman collapsed.

Emergency services responded to reports of a woman, approximately in her 80s, struggling to breathe around 5.30pm on Saturday (February 25).

According to South East Coast Ambulance Service, CPR was already in progress by a member of the public when they arrived at the scene near Watson’s News.

Paramedics took over and were able to resuscitate the woman. She was rushed to Eastbourne District General Hospital, still in a serious condition.

An eyewitness said, “A poor old lady collapsed in the Arndale Centre in Watson’s News doorway.

“I work across from the store and saw her fall. A lot of members of the public stopped and helped and called for an ambulance.

“The staff at the Arndale Centre security team where absolutely amazing. Two of them gave the lady CPR and used their defibrillator.

“All who helped deserve a well done. I just hope the lady is okay, but it didn’t look good.”
