More than 300 people shared their memories and photographs of the Wish Tower at a special exhibition at the weekend.
The first ever Wish Tower Discovery Day was held at the Towner gallery and volunteers arrived early to mark a life size plan of the tower on the floor and set up slideshows. The Wish Tower itself was also open all day with volunteers running guided tours of the seafront landmark.
The two day exhibition was organised by the Wish Tower Friends as part of a Heritage Lottery funded project.
Organiser Liz Crew said, “People came along to find out more about the history of the Wish Tower and the other Martello Towers and why they’re important. They could learn how many towers there were in and around Eastbourne, find out who was born and died there and visitors also told us their memories of the tower and the slopes around it. We are planning to include much of that information in our history of the tower.”
