IS PREPARATION work underway on the controversial Kings Drive development?
That’s the question being asked by Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, who fears some work may be starting on the site.
Developers were given the green light by a government planning inspector to build 140 homes on the site near the DGH.
Stephen said this week, “I was contacted by local residents from the Rodmill telling me that on Tuesday workmen had appeared on the Chatsworth Estate land by Kings Drive.
“I have immediately written to the Duke of Devonshire seeking reassurance that these excavations have nothing to do with the proposed Taylor Wimpey housing development.
“Though we lost to the Chatsworth Estate when the planning inspector overruled the Eastbourne Borough Council’s rejection of the site for development, a follow up meeting I had with the Duke and subsequent letters have made it clear that the residents do not want a housing development on this precious green space.
“I will be very disappointed and concerned if the Chatsworth Estate is developing a building site with Taylor Wimpey and I know local residents will be as well.
“Perhaps these excavations are innocent in their nature, but I am seeking reassurances from the Duke as a matter of priority.”
