Wealden MP Nusrat Ghani has welcomed news that the unemployment rate in the her parliamentary constituency has fallen by 0.1 per cent, from 0.8 per cent to 0.7 per cent.
The total number of unemployed claimants in Wealden in June 2016 was 365, with the unemployment rate being the 608th highest of the 650 parliamentary constituencies in the UK.
Twenty-five fewer people were unemployed in Wealden in June compared to May.
Nationally, the UK unemployment rate fell to an 11-year low of 4.9 per cent, the lowest since July 2005.
Ms Ghani said, “It is fantastic news that unemployment in Wealden has fallen yet again, and is now down to 0.7 per cent.
“This is testament to the Government’s economic plan, which has helped people all across the country find work, and to the people and businesses of Wealden, who show extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit.
“As our new Government takes office, I hope this trend will continue for a long time to come.”
The MP added, “I will continue to work with businesses and farms to support more job opportunities and apprenticeships.”
