Volunteers are needed to support older people in Eastbourne.
Independent Age, the charity which supports thousands of older people across the UK, is making the appeal for volunteers.
The charity aims to tackle poverty and loneliness by offering information, advice and friendship. Independent Age also offers befriending and support from an Independent Age volunteer.
The charity supports more than 200 older people across East Sussex and is looking for new volunteers in Eastbourne to help with the delivery of its services.
Amanda Jupp, the charity’s Sussex manager, said, “We are urgently looking for local people who want to make a difference to the lives of older people living in their area.
“Volunteer visitors ensure that we are able to deliver our frontline befriending service by regularly visiting one or more of the older people we support – offering them the chance to see a familiar, friendly face on a regular basis.
“The role involves anything from popping round for a cup of coffee and chat to helping with a shopping trip.
“Organising volunteers help us to raise our profile, attract new volunteers to the charity and manage an existing team of volunteers within their local area.”
Ms Jupp says both roles are perfect for someone who wants to be active in their community.
She added, “If you have time to spare this could be a great opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older people.”
