LOCAL Care for the Carers volunteers were acknowledged for their work with Eastbourne youngsters by mayor Carolyn Heaps.

Vicky Gosden and Wendy Boorman were invited to attend the Mayor’s Airbourne buffet lunch, in recognition of all the hard work volunteers do within the community.

Vicky and Wendy help run a club for Eastbourne under 18s who help to look after a member of their family who is sick or has a disability.

The club is an opportunity for young carers to take some time out from their caring role, make friends and have some fun. Local volunteers help run the club, as well as providing transport, and without this help lots of the members wouldn’t be able to attend.

Marie Casey, chief executive officer of Care for the Carers, said, “We are delighted that our volunteers are being recognised in this way as we couldn’t run the clubs without them.

“The clubs are essential to the young people we support and without the support of the local community, we would really struggle to run them. I would like to thank Vicky and Wendy, and all Care for the Carers volunteers for everything they do to help.”

Care for the Carers is fundraising so they can continue to run the young carers’ clubs. Anyone who would like to volunteer, donate or fundraise, should contact 738390, email info@cftc.org.uk or find Care for the Carers on Facebook, on twitter @care4thecarers or online at www.cftc.org.uk.
