TOURS of England’s newest and largest vineyard will be given as a new attraction at this year’s annual Alfriston Festival.
The festival starts on August 19 and culminates on the Bank Holiday weekend of August 25, 26 and 27 with a packed programme of activities for all the family, including the chance to tour Rathfinny Vineyard - the £5 admittance cost going directly to the festival.
The 90-minute tours of the estate will take place at 11am and 2pm on August 25 and will include a winery talk followed by a guided walk of the farm and then refreshments.
Other highlights on Saturday include a Tug of War across the Cuckmere river by the White Bridge at 3.30pm, which is sponsored by Ye Olde Smugglers Inn, and a collectors’ car show on The Tye.
A family fun dog show, a dog training demonstration and a traditional wellie throwing contest will all be held on August 26 while on August 27 there will be a car boot sale on the recreation ground from 7am, maypole dancing at the Clergy House, plus free entry into the Clergy House, and the village fair with pony rides and traditional games and stalls.
There will be a funfair throughout the event and the Festival Art Exhibition, held in the Old Chapel Centre, opens 10am-5pm from August 22-27, when original work will be exhibited by professional and amateur artists from the local area and offered for sale.
