An Eastbourne business is appealing for help after a man armed with a hammer attacked its windows in the early hours of this morning (July 8).

CCTV footage, taken from a camera outside Computer Plus in Cavendish Place, shows a hooded man approach the store and repeatedly hit its front window with a hammer.

Store owners say the attack, which took place at around 4.33am, is the latest in a string of criminal damage targeting the business.

Chris Kilpatrick of Computer Plus said, “This is the third time in the last month we’ve had our windows smashed. After the second time we put up the CCTV.

“I have no idea why someone would do this. We’ve been in business for more than 25 years, we didn’t get there by annoying customers.

“This wasn’t a break-in attempt, the guy hits the window and goes within five seconds.

“What’s really worrying is that the window is being broken straight after its been fixed. The time between the window and the signage being fixed and this is just three days.”

Mr Kilpatrick has posted the CCTV footage online in hopes of tracing the man.

He has asked witnesses or anyone who recognises the man to call police on 101.

A spokesperson at Sussex Police said, “Police are investigating a third attack on an Eastbourne computer shop in the last six weeks.

“At 4.25am on Friday (July 8), the window of the shop in Cavendish Place was smashed with a hammer. Repairs had only been completed a few days before following a similar attack on June 21 and another on June 1, when it is thought that a brick may have been thrown at the window.

“Anyone with information about any of the incidents is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 328 of 08/07.”
