Police are appealing for witnesses after what parents fear was an attempted child abduction.
Family members report that a man attempted to grab a pair of 12-year-old boys who were cycling to school through Hampden Park at around 7.45am on Wednesday.
The boys were able to get away from the man who is described as tall, black and wearing high-vis gear. He was seen getting into a white Transit van.
Concerned friends and family members took to Facebook and other social media sites to warn parents in the area.
A police spokesman said, “At 10.38am on Wednesday (January 6), police received reports of an incident between two young cyclists and a van driver in Eastbourne.
“Two boys had been cycling along Park Avenue in Hampden Park at about 7.50am when they noticed a man running behind them waving his arms in the air.
“Officers are speaking to the two boys to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 101, quoting serial 355 of 06/01.”
