UPDATE: Major incident ongoing at Beachy Head

A coastguard helicopter has been deployed to assist at a major incident at Beachy Head today (Tuesday, February 28).

Police were called to Peace Path just before 11am after reports that a car had gone off the cliff edge.

Two fire engines from Bexhill and Battle were also called to assist by the coastguard, as well as a maritime team from Newhaven, shortly afterwards.

According to Sussex Police, teams have been sent to look at the vehicle, which is underwater.

It is thought the car may have gone off the cliff edge at some time during the night.

The incident is currently ongoing.
