Keane founder Tim Rice-Oxley says he and front man Tom Chaplin are “really excited” to be playing a gig in aid of the Battle Festival later this year.

Speaking to the Battle Observer this morning (June 5), Tim says the pair wanted to help raise some money for the revamped festival.

Tim, who is a patron of the Battle Festival, said: “I really wanted to get involved in the festival and help out.

“We just thought we could get together and play, which we have not done for a while, and try to raise a bit of money for the festival to help it grow, and perhaps help draw a bit of attention to the festival.”

The gig, which will take place on August 8, will coincide with an international fan gathering, which will see Keane fans from as far afield as Australia, Canada and South America descend on 1066 Country to celebrate their idols.

Tim said the fan gathering was “amazing”, adding: “It’s just so flattering that people would go to that immense effort and it would be a perfect opportunity to tie into that and hopefully raise some money for the festival and have a fantastic night as well.

Tim has revealed the concert will be an acoustic gig, although a venue has yet to be confirmed.

He added: “It should be a really, really special occasion.

“It could be the only time we play together this year.”

Tim and Tom have not performed together for about two years.

Tim told the Observer: “It’s been far too long since we played together.

“But we are both really excited about it.”

Tickets for the concert are not yet available, but Keane fans are being advised to keep an eye on the Battle Festival website - www.battlefestival.co.uk

Tim also confirmed that he will once again be taking part in special one-to-one mentoring sessions with aspiring young musicians, which proved such a success at last year’s festival.

A full interview with Tim Rice-Oxley will be available on the Observer websites later this week.
