UPDATE: Helicopter search at Beachy Head

A helicopter search is underway at Beachy Head after reports of a car going over the cliff last night (December 30).

A search was launched at around 11.55pm after police received reports a car had gone over the cliff edge.

The search, by the coastguard helicopter from Lydd, was called off at 3.10am this morning (December 31) after no signs of a car was found.

The incident was initially classified as a false alarm with good intent and closed but a further search – during daylight – is currently underway for confirmation.

UPDATE 12.45pm: The second search has confirmed there is no sign of a car and the incident has now been closed.
