UPDATE: Elderly woman taken to hospital after Eastbourne accident

An elderly woman has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after she was involved in an accident in Eastbourne town centre.

The woman was hit by a van in Lismore Road at 3.10pm this afternoon (January 20).

She has been taken by ambulance to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where she is being treated for serious head injuries.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to the scene.

Lismore road is closed in both directions between the Bolton Road and Pevensey Road junctions due to the crash.

There is also some disruption on Pevensey Road between Susans Road and Lismore Road.

Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call police on 101 quoting operation Cosham.
