A cache of around 80 bombs has been discovered at a building site at King’s Drive.

Police said they would have to close King’s Drive, from its junction from King’s Avenue to the DGH roundabout for 15 minutes.

The controlled explosion is expected to take place between 3pm and 3.30pm today (March 16).

Eastbourne Police warned residents to be aware of the explosions but said ‘do not be afraid’.

The Herald was told the cache was discovered this morning, after a 20-ton digger picked up one of the containers, which went off.

The fire brigade was called as there were flames as a result of the blast.

The digger driver went to hospital to be checked over.
