A team of brave runners will end their 100-mile challenge over the South Downs Way in Eastbourne on Sunday (July 17).

They will arrive in town this weekend after a three-day ultramarathon for a unique Sussex-based charity which helps children with disabilities in Eastbourne.

The members of The Run Squad will be heading west from Winchester Cathedral to Eastbourne on July 15, passing through Bignor Hill, Devils Dyke, Afriston and Jevington taking in the panoramic views and historical sites along the ancient pathway, arriving in Eastbourne on Sunday (July 17).

The event was the idea of Sussex Police officer Magda Strycharska.

She said, “There has been lots of training, preparation and excitement but the South Downs Way is not to be underestimated. To be honest we’ve never done anything quite like it before.

It’s a really difficult route and we just want to finish each day without any injuries.

“Whoopsadaisy is very close to our hearts because of the tremendous work they do for children with motor disorders and their families. The work they do is so specialised and they are such a small charity, they need every penny we can raise.”

To support the Whoopsa100 running team go to www.justgiving.com/whoopsa100 To donate text “OPSA99” £5/£10 to 70070 http://www.whoopsadaisy.org

Veteran marathon runners and beginners are welcome to join the runners for one of the three days or anyone can cheer them along or help raise funds.

Whoopsadaisy is the only charity in Sussex providing a type of specialist physical therapy called Conductive Education, to help children with cerebral palsy and other conditions. The charity provides its services for free and relies entirely on donations.

The Run Squad was set up by Jo and Nick Rivett, the owners of Rivett Sport shop, three years ago. Members of the Run Squad will get involved to support the runners with refreshments, checkpoints, cheering squads and a fundraising activities.
