The UK Independence Party took their second scalp of the morning in the East Sussex County Council elections by capturing the Seaford Sutton ward.

Frank Carstairs picked up 39.7% of the vote with 1189 votes for UKIP, ahead of the Conservative’s Sam Adeniji who received 927 votes. Liberal Democrat Eleas Hussain was third with 557 votes and Labour’s Peter Hambly was spared the ignominy of last place with 191 votes, just ahead of the Green Party’s Patti Broome with 131 votes.

The UKIP success in Seaford came within an hour of the party capturing the Pevensey & Westham seat from the Tories.
