UKIP capture Pevensey & Westham from Tories

The UK Independence Party this morning won their first seat on East Sussex County Council with victory in the Pevesney & Westham ward.

Mike Pursglove captured the seat for UKIP with 1,096 votes ahead of the Conservative Tony Freebody, who had represented the ward since 2009, and who picked up 991 votes.

Labour’s Robert Slater picked up third place with 272 votes and Liberal Democrat Rachel Hills trailed in fourth with 136 votes. The turn-out was 33 per cent.
