Police are appealing for witnesses after two women were assaulted on Eastbourne seafront on Saturday, August 8.

The victims, aged 24 and 28, were sitting together on the lower promenade of Grand Parade at 12.15am when they were approached by a group of people who poured alcohol onto them and then punched them both.

The 28-year-old victim received medical treatment for a cut below one of her eyes and her bag, which contained personal items, was also stolen. The other victim was punched but did not require any medical treatment.

The suspects were described as five women and one man aged between 16 to 20. After the attack they were seen running up the stairs next to the bandstand on to Grand Parade.

PC Chris Holmes said: “This was a particularly nasty unprovoked attack on two friends who were enjoying an evening out. If anyone has any information about the identity of the suspects please call us.”

Any witness or anyone with information about the incident is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 17 of 08/08. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
