TV’s David Dimbleby, who lives locally, untied a knot to officially open Birling Gap’s new National Trust visitor centre on Thursday (May 8).
The centre has had a renovation, jointly funded by the National Trust and South Downs National Park, and the interactive site will allow visitors to discover stories of local people, coastal wildlife and the famous chalk cliffs.
Jane Cecil, general manager, said, “Birling Gap is of huge importance to the National Trust as a unique site on the Sussex Heritage Coast in the South Downs National Park. “We welcome over 350,000 visitors each year, to a place where the South Downs meets the coast, and we hope the new visitor centre will add to the enjoyment of a day out with us.
“We’ve had some amazing visitor feedback.”
