Troupe looks for Zimmers as stage props
IN A town, if folklore is to be believed, which isn't short on older residents a local theatre company didn't think it would have too much of a challenge on its hands to find dozens of Zimmer frames.
The accessories will take centre stage in the musical comedy, The Producers, being staged at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, by the Rattonians from July 22 – August 1.
And the problem facing the company is that, despite the town's image, there just aren't any to be found.
Those familiar with the recent film version will remember the crowd of old ladies swinging, dancing and jumping over the Zimmers in one of the many musical numbers.
And never a group to shy away from a challenge, the Rattonians will be doing just that on the Congress stage.
But the real producers Mark and Melanie Adams have been left scratching their heads over the availability of Zimmers.
Melanie said, "We've scoured charity and second-hand shops all around the area and so far have six.
"The scene involves 40 people and time is getting short. If anyone can help us by lending any unused frames – without wheels – we'd be really grateful and would promise to return them.
"Rehearsing with chairs just isn't the same!"
