Eastbourne lifeboat crew rescued a fisherman whose nets had become tangled round the boat’s propeller.

The lone fisherman, aboard the Newhaven registered vessel Spirit of Navan, was recovering the nets when they got snagged.

With one end of the nets anchored to the seabed and the wind and tide acting against him the fisherman was firmly trapped.

Eastbourne all weather lifeboat was launched just before 10am on Wednesday. The fishing vessel was then manoeuvred up tide so the nets and their anchor could be recovered, then taken to Sovereign Harbour where it was lifted and inspected for damage.
