A POLICE officer and expectant father who was brought up in Eastbourne has been killed in a road accident.
PC Ian Swadling died after coming off his motorbike on his way home from work. He suffered fatal injuries while riding his silver Kawasaki machine on an A-road near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. No other vehicle is being sought in connection with the crash on the evening of May 4.
The 34-year-old lived in Bletchley in Bedfordshire with his wife Catrina and their three year old son Jack. The couple, who married in 2006, were expecting a baby girl in June.
Ian attended St Andrew’s and Tollgate schools in Eastbourne and later moved away. His parents Roger and Linda still live in the town.
Ian’s widow, Catrina, said, “Ian was such a dedicated family man. He could not wait to get home to see Jack and loved being with his family.
“He had many interests including skiing and had been to France several times. We also had skiing holidays in America.
“He was looking forward to when Jack was a bit older and he could take him. Ian was a great father and was really able to get down on a level with Jack and all of his nieces and nephews. He was brilliant with children and young people.
“He was a really wonderful man. He never worried about anything and was a really happy-go-lucky guy; we will miss him more than words can say.”
