A HIT and run driver has left a pedestrian with serious injuries after knocking him down on a Hailsham road on Sunday evening.
The 22-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road at Greenwich Park at around 6.25pm when he was struck by a vehicle travelling south.
The impact caused him to collide with a parked silver Ford Mondeo car before hitting the ground.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene and treated the stricken pedestrian for serious leg injuries.
Sergeant Andy Smith from Polegate Roads Policing Unit said, “Most road traffic collisions are traumatic for those involved but when a driver fails to stop at a scene and help the injured person, it is all the more appalling.
“We are hoping to establish the type of vehicle that struck the man but in the meantime, we would like the driver of a blue Escort van that was seen in the area at the time of the incident, to please get in touch.
“If you witnessed the incident or have any information that could help police with their enquires please call Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1339 of 30/10 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The man remains in Eastbourne District General Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
