A FIVE-VEHICLE pile-up on a busy stretch of road on Saturday (March 17) caused traffic chaos in Eastbourne.
The crash happened at Cross Levels Way at around 11.40am and brought tailbacks along Lottbridge Drove, Kings Drive and for drivers heading into Hampden Park.
Motorists could be seen queuing to get in and out Sainsbury’s in Broadwater Way as well as those travelling along Lottbridge Drove heading towards Hampden Park.
Police, the ambulance service and fire crews were at the scene and traffic along Cross Levels Way was directed by an officer at the crash site.
The collision involved a Nissan Almera, Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Astra, BMW and a Mini Cooper.
All the drivers were from Eastbourne.
A 46-year-old woman driving the first car and a 60-year-old, who was behind the wheel of the Ford Fiesta, suffered slight injuries.
A Vauxhall Astra driven by an 81-year-old woman and her 85-year-old passenger had minor injuries.
The BMW driver, a 40-year-old and her two daughters, aged 10 and 11, also suffered minor injuries and a 35-year-old woman driver of the Mini Cooper suffered whiplash.
The incident meant the road was closed until 1.15pm.
