Businesses in Albert Parade were well supported by the community on Saturday as residents were urged to spend £5 in the stores.
A campaign to stop a Sainsbury’s coming to town stepped up a gear as people were asked to show their support and dig deep.
Residents also joined MP Stephen Lloyd for a photo shoot and carried umbrellas to drive the message home, ‘Don’t rain on Albert Parade’.
Robbie Dowsett, who owns Shepperds greengrocer with her husband Brian and daughter Tina Edwards, said, “It was excellent.
“So many people turned up and it was a lovely feeling how passionate people are about Albert Parade.
“We had a really busy day.”
Butcher Nigel Heath, owner of J Heath & Son, added, “It was really good to see the support the parade has got from local residents. I personally had the best Saturday we had takings wise.”
