A charity shop in Eastbourne has been named the best in the country by leading veterinary charity, PDSA.
Eastbourne’s PDSA shop has beaten off competition from more than 160 of the charity’s other shops in the country to be crowned overall ‘top shop’ for its exceptional all-round performance.
Staff and volunteers at the store, located on Terminus Road, received a visit from PDSA director general, Jan McLoughlin, and PDSA chairman, John Smith, to congratulate them on their outstanding work raising vital funds for sick and injured pets.
Jan McLoughlin said, “It’s a fabulous achievement to be crowned overall winner of our top shop awards. PDSA is immensely proud of what the staff and volunteers here in Eastbourne are achieving. The team has shown great skill and commitment to raising much-needed funds to help PDSA’s vets and nurses deliver our vital veterinary care.”
PDSA shops raise funds to help the charity provide free veterinary treatment for the pets of people in need through a nationwide network of 51 PDSA Pet Hospitals. Last year, PDSA provided 2.7 million treatments to poorly pets, ranging from life-saving operations to preventive care.
Eastbourne PDSA Shop manager, Wendy Modestou, said, “We are all thrilled to receive this award. We have an incredible team of volunteers who donate their free time to PDSA. We’re also really lucky to have the support of local people who not only come and buy, but also donate items to the store.”

The annual ‘top shop’ awards take into account different performance indicators including profits, year-on-year sales figures and volunteer management.
