Polegate Town Council has announced that a long serving councillor has been made honorary freeman.
Councillor Margaret Piper was made honorary freeman, the highest honour a council can give, in recognition of the ‘long, distinguished and eminent service’ to the town council.
The unanimous decision was made at a special meeting of the council.
Cllr Piper was formally admitted as honorary freeman and received a badge and scroll, presented to her by the Mayor of Polegate, Cllr David Watts. Cllr Piper thanked everyone for coming and the council for giving her the award. She recalled moments from her 20 years of service as a councillor and resident and the many and varied past achievements of Polegate Town Council as a whole.
