The proprietors of Hudsons wine bar in South Street have applied for planning permission to officially stay open until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights.
The application also requests permission to have tables and chairs outside the bar until 10pm.
An earlier application put forward the idea of staying open until 1.30am and to have outside seating available until 1am, but this idea appears to have been shelved.
In the latest application the proprietor of the bar states that, Hudson’s has had a premises license since 31 May 2007, allowing closing time of 0100 on Fridays and Saturdays, including Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
And they say have had no problems with the licensing, police or crime prevention authorities in the last six years of trading But they have recently discovered the planning condition does not match up with the license.
Five objections have been received, one from a business in South Street, and four from residents of a block of flats to the rear.
The objections include concerns about the noise that would be created close to a residential area.
Council planners have recommended permission should be granted stating it would “regularise the existing circumstances, and would have no impact on residential amenity.”
The application will be discussed at the Town Hall at 6pm on Tuesday (January 8).
