TENNIS fans can start snapping up their tickets to this year’s Eastbourne extravaganza after they went on general sale earlier this week – with free entry on the opening day.
Organisers of the AEGON International, which takes place at Devonshire Park between June 16 and June 23, started selling tickets on Saturday and take up, as ever, is expected to be strong.
All centre court seats have enjoyed a price freeze, as have tickets for all category one games.
And, in a move sure to please local tennis fans, entry to all parts of the site will be free of charge on the opening day and children aged under 16 can get free tickets to the grounds all week when accompanied by a paying adults. Anyone looking to take advantage of this deal should be sure to ask for the children’s pass when buying their adult entry.
The joint ATP and WTA tournament will be the final chance for some of the world’s best male and female tennis-playing talent to hone their grass court skills before Wimbledon gets underway.
And if previous years are anything to go by, there should be some big names coming to the Sunshine Coast.
Last year saw a host of stellar women’s players compete for the coveted trophy, including Serena and Venus Williams, Petra Kvitova, Na Li and Victoria Azarenka. This year the players will be battling for more than $1million in prize money.
Each year the tournament provides a welcome boost to the town’s economy, with hotels, restaurants and cafes full to bursting with the annual influx of tennis fans.
And, according to one of the organisers, it is those fans which make Eastbourne such a popular pre-Wimbledon destination.
Gavin Fletcher, AEGON International tournament director said, “The tennis fans in the area have always embraced the event and I’m sure this year will be no exception.
“We are hoping to ensure a bumper crowd on the opening day of the tournament with free entry to the park. Centre court and court one will also have unreserved seating making it the ideal time to see great tennis served daily and the opportunity to try out some tennis for yourselves.”
Prices start from as little as £14 for a day’s ground pass (or £5 for the final day) and go as high as £41 for reserved seats on Centre Court for the tournament deciders – or £200 for the full week. For tickets call 0844 581 3015 or go to the Devonshire Park box office.
