Thriller steps in to fill breach

THE DEVONSHIRE Park Theatre autumn line-up has been forced to change due to the unforeseen cancellation of Balmoral, the tour has been shelved due to the sudden indisposition of Rik Mayall.

The gap this left in the season has been filled by the Francis Durbridge thriller Fatal Encounter (September 29-October 3).

Nicholas Ball leads the star cast; Nicholas has most recently been on television screens as gangland boss Terry Bates in EastEnders, his many other appearances include Footballers Wives and the title role in Hazell.

The cast also includes Anita Harris and Neil Stacy (Duty Free).

From the pen of celebrated thriller writer Francis Durbridge this gripping tense drama will keep audiences on the edge of their seats until the intriguing and suspense filled conclusion.

Howard Mansfield is concerned for his wife Joanna, who has become unusually distressed and nervous.

When he arrives home one day to find that Joanna has accidentally shot his former friend Perry during a struggle, he decides to protect her by confessing to the shooting himself.

Although the police accept this was an accident, Perry's death leaves Howard caught up in a web of blackmail, conspiracy and attempted murder.

Is the gallant Mark Adler who comes to Joanna's rescue when her handbag is snatched all he seems? What is the involvement of the young Rex Winter? Is Perry's ex-wife Grace involved?

Packed with twists and turns and shocking revelations this intriguing story will keep audiences guessing right up until the final unexpected showdown.

Fatal Encounter was released as a novel posthumously in 2002 and was the last Francis Durbridge book to ever be released following his death in 1998.

Evening performances are at 7.45pm with Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Tickets cost from 13.50-19.50, call 412000.

Any tickets which were purchased for Balmoral can be transferred to this production or will be refunded, call the box office for more information.
