Thirteeen-year-old punched in the face in Eastbourne town centre

A 13-year-old foreign student was punched in the face by a teenage attacker on Thursday (April 4).

The youngster suffered bruising after the assault, which took place outside the Cornfield Road entrance to the Arndale Centre just before 9pm.

Inspector Damen Funnell, of Eastbourne’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said, “This incident was completely unprovoked and resulted in the young student sustaining minor bruising to his face.

“I am appealing for anyone with information relating to this incident to either inform the police directly via 101, quoting serial 1517 of 4 April, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

“Enquiries into this assault are continuing and I would like to urge the man responsible to contact police prior to him being located, or for those individuals who were with him on the night to come forward and provide relevant details. Any information given to us will be followed up promptly.

“As a result of this incident, we will be increasing the number of patrols in the area to prevent any further offences taking place.”

The attacker is described as white, aged around 17, and was wearing a pair of distinctive bright pink gloves. He was with a larger group of people of a similar age both before and after the assault took place.
