A con-man stole money from a 92-year-old after pretending his window security needed upgrading.

The man called at the pensioner’s Polegate home on Tuesday morning (May 14) and asked if he could check out the inside of his windows.

The thief was briefly left alone and later, when the pensioner asked for ID, he said he would retrieve it from his car but never returned. The victim then realised some cash was missing.

Police are now appealing for anyone who saw a man knocking on doors in Eastern Avenue to get in touch.

Detective Constable Damon Deans-Cane said, “Always make sure you ask for ID from someone before you let them into your house and if they don’t have any, or refuse, never let them in. This man is described as in his late 20s, light or mousey short hair and about 5’ 11” and stocky.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 411 of 14/5 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
