The YMCA will be among several organisations taking part in this Saturday’s Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival.
The group, which is likely to be 40 strong, will be dressed as traditional Victorian street traders with the float decorated in the image of the pier.
They have been hard at work creating replica railings, observer tower and street trader outfits. The different youth groups will all be dressed as something that relates to the pier.
Keep an eye out for the YMCA group in the carnival which has as its theme “Sussex by the sea”.
The procession gets under way from 4pm with David Cooper taking on the role of pageant master. Last year’s carnival attracted 1,500 walkers and around 25,000 supporters. Organisers are hoping to make this year’s event even bigger and better.
The route of the Carnival will be from Fishermans Green to the Western Lawns with live music and entertainment throughout the day.
There will be a number of road closures during Saturday afternoon:
- Royal Parade will be closed to traffic from Sovereign Centre Roundabout to Beach Road from 2.30pm.
- Royal Parade, Marine Parade, Grand Parade and King Edward’s Parade will be closed to traffic from Beach Road to Bolsover Road.
