Around 2,000 visitors descended on Meads Street last Friday to enjoy pre-Christmas fun at Meads Magic.
The road was closed to create a street market scene brimming with festive goodies such as decorations, jewellery, home furnishings, photographs and gorgeous artwork. Browsing visitors were also able to indulge in roasted chestnuts, soup, winter Pimms and savouries courtesy of the Ship Inn.
Local independent wine merchant Artisvin provided a ’12 Wines of Christmas Wine Tasting’.
The local schools choirs were much in evidence with St John’s, St Andrew’s and Moira House all performing, a Punch and Judy show entertained children while Vintage Hot Five Jazz Band had visitors dancing in the streets under the seasonal festive lighting scheme that was launched during the event.
The event was organised by Meads Traders, Mothers of Meads Association (MoMAS) and ward councillors from Eastbourne Borough Council.
Meads councillor Caroline Ansell said, “The event was hugely successful, the turnout was spectacular and I feel we have really put Meads Magic on the map.
“The whole community came together to create a festive atmosphere. We’ll be back in 2014.”
The event raised money towards The Beachy Head Chaplaincy and was sponsored by Stagecoach, Bede’s, Errigo Safety Consultants and JPM Electrical Contractors Ltd.
