AN EASTBOURNE author who has spent her retirement writing has had her first novel published. Teresa Bromley writes under the name of Danny Devoy and the novel Scarlett, Darwin’s Secret, was launched at the parish hall of Our Lady of Ransom, where Teresa is a regular worshipper.
Scarlett is a love story that blends together life aboard the HMS Beagle in 1831 with a present day quest.
Teresa, born in Ireland, taught in the UK and USA for several years and retired to Eastbourne a few years ago. She spent a number of years researching the life of Captain Robert Fitzroy and used her findings to write the fictional story about the captain.
“I hope people will enjoy my book, both the portrayal of life aboard the Beagle and the present day search for authenticity in Scarlett’s diary,” said Teresa, who plays an active part in church work and is a member of several societies including the Police Court Mission.
