Tennis is good for the hotel business in Eastbourne, research has revealed.
The town’s hotels experienced strong performance levels in the first half of 2016, posting year-over-year increases in both occupancy and revenue.
During the Aegon International Tennis Tournament week (June 20 to June 25), hotel revenue increased 16 per cent compared with the same week in 2015.
Throughout the week, occupancy levels remained above 90 per cent, reaching a peak of 98 per cent that Tuesday. Eastbourne’s average occupancy level for the week was 92 per cent - the highest of any UK market during the tournament period.
The tournament resulted in higher occupancy and revenue levels for Eastbourne than during Easter Weekend and the May Bank Holiday.
During the tournament, Eastbourne’s revenue per available room (RevPAR) reached £68, versus £54 for all other days in the month.
The statistics were compiled by STR, a hotel data and analystics specialist based in London.
It is now compiling data on the impact Airbourne 2016 on Eastbourne hotels. Historic data suggests it is ‘significant’.
