SMITHS Swimming Club raised more than £300 for Sports Relief.

The club’s new head coach, Heather Curry, swam with five swimmers, Amy Trott, Ellie Carter, Thomas Watkins, Stephanie Bone and her brother Ryan, in the Big Splash Swimathon at the Sovereign Centre on April 29.

The Eastbourne club began the month taking two silver medals at the regional time trials in Littlehampton and then gained the best ever collection of competitive sprint awards and personal best times at their new-look club championships just a week later.

Most recently, Smiths swimmers aged eight-16 years old and from every ability level, had enormous fun competing against visiting team Lewis SC at the club’s first local gala of the year.

Heather, who took over in February, is delighted with the swift progress Smiths is making, “It’s a lovely friendly Club with very supportive parents, a strong committee and a rapidly growing team of talented swimmers.

“I feel extremely privileged to be a part of it all.”
