An Eastbourne support worker has been shortlisted for the Great British Care Awards for her work as a ‘Care Innovator’.
Val Larkin, who works at Oak Lodge in Polegate, a residential home for adults with physical and learning disabilities, was chosen for a monthly magazine she creates for staff, residents and their families.
She assembles the newsletter – that features news and around 100 photographs involving Oak Lodge and sister home Hillview – in her own time.
“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am,” said Val. “I do the magazine because I get a great kick out of it and people seem to enjoy it. I never imagined I’d be shortlisted a million years!”
There are nine regional awards leading to national finals to be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London in 2015.
