Students help with Mary Portas bid

MEDIA students from Sussex Downs College have done their bit for the Portas Pilot by putting together a video for the bid.

All Town Teams were required to submit a You Tube video as part of their application for funding and advice from retail guru Mary Portas.

Students from the Media Production BTEC were pleased to be involved and put their film and editing skills to the test.

Tom Goodwin, 16, a former Willingdon School pupil, directed the video, while 18-year-old former Ratton pupil, Shane Fox, produced it.

James McDowell, 16 and also a former Ratton pupil, was behind the camera and 17-year-old Hallam Ager, who previously attended Seaford Head, did the sound for the video.

Dave Hinton, employability co-ordinator at Eastbourne Works who represents Sussex Downs College on the town team bid, said, “As soon as the project took off I was able to liaise with the media curriculum staff from the Eastbourne campus who identified a group of students who were about to start an assignment on the decline of the high street.

“It therefore dovetailed into their programme and within days they were out filming.

“The results are tremendous and they have really matched and surpassed the brief we gave them.”
