A student from Eastbourne had her work chosen to feature at London Fashion Week.

Alicia Leckie, who has just completed her degree in Fashion Design and Marketing at the University of East London, was one of six pupils in her year selected to show off their collection during the prestigious event.

The 22-year-old used to be a pupil at Eastbourne College and St Bede’s Prep School.

Alicia’s mum Miss Griffiths said, “I’m very proud of her.

“I was really surprised by the designs.

“I was amazed my daughter could do that as not only did she have to design it she made it as well.”

Her daughter has carried out work experience with several well-known fashion design companies and is also set to have her work featured in the magazine Vogue.

Alecia will also be enjoying a two week internship at a design house and is currently looking for work in the industry, having finished her degree.

Miss Griffiths said her daughter’s love of drawing began at a young age.

She added, “It all started when she was little, she loved drawing butterflies, hence the design of some of the eyes and ink spreading for a print.”

Before her university degree Alicia studied sewing and design as an A-level at Eastbourne College.

London Fashion Week is an apparel trade show held in London twice each year, in February and September.

It is one of the ‘Big Four’ fashion weeks, along with New York Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.
