An Eastbourne man is through to the super finals of the Street Workout World Cup 2014 after claiming second place in the New York stage of the competition last month.
Stephen Hughes-Landers travelled to America at the end of August to compete against 30 other men in the World Street Workout and Calisthenics Federation’s (WSWCF) World Cup.
The New York event is just one of ten stages that take place throughout the year and across the globe, with the top three from each stage qualifying for the super finals, due to take place in Oslo in November.
Stephen gave up his profession a year ago to start watching videos and learning calisthenics – the extreme version of which provides the basis for street workout – and his risk paid off as he now prepares to compete in the World Cup final.
Stephen, who is a member of Official Barstarzz with more than 70 million views on YouTube, said, “There were 31 competitors in New York and all are people I have looked up to since I started this. I had no pressure to qualify, it was an honour just to share the stage with so many great athletes. It was my first time in USA and I met so many of my BARSTARZZ team. That experience alone will stay with me forever.
“The super finals is every bar athletes dream. After making the World Championship Finals in Moscow and now this, I hope it will inspire others.”
