A TORTOISE, birds of prey and a sponge-a-teacher stall helped raise £1,100 for a local school.

Pupils and parents flocked to Willingdon Primary’s summer fair, with dozens taking up the chance to come face to face with owls or try their luck on the various stalls.

Particularly popular with the youngsters was a stand making friendship bracelets while elsewhere was the usual tombola and raffles and a spokesman for the school said the event went brilliantly.

The fair was organised by the Friends of Willingdon Primary School.
