PUPILS from an Eastbourne primary school were victorious in this year’s 1066 East Sussex choir competition.
St John’s Meads C of E school choir saw off finalists from 10 other primary schools from across the county to take the 2012 trophy.
The 40-strong choir performed the gospel song Steal Away, with solos by Eleanor Edwards, Darcy Parry, Charlotte Webb and Eleanor Potter.
This was followed by an enthusiastic rendition of Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music.
The final took place on 25 May at Hastings’ White Rock theatre. The prize included £250 for the school and the chance to perform with the event’s patrons, Tenors Un Limited, later in the year.
The group’s choirmaster and deputy head, Nathan Cline, said, “I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by the choir. I think they really enjoyed the experience.”
