The New Year was kick started at Hampden Park Sports Centre on Saturday January 2, when 1,000 visitors attended the launch of Sport Eastbourne, the new Eastbourne Borough Council sports brand.

The event received positive feedback from visitors and partners involved in the launch. It aimed to show people how affordable the council-run facilities are, and how easy it is to create a happier, healthier and more sociable lifestyle with Sport Eastbourne.

Visitors could to try out many different sports, from basketball and netball shoot-outs to cycling, athletics, gym inductions and even football on the 3G floodlit football pitch, despite wet weather.

Children also enjoyed singing and dancing from Frozen’s Elsa and Olaf. The launch event resulted in many signing-up for Sport Eastbourne membership and Sport Eastbourne is expecting many more new member sign-ups in 2016.

Sport Eastbourne membership prices start from just £25.50 a month for a family, with individual contract-free gym membership from just £20 per month or from just £2.50 a session. Many children’s term time clubs begin from the week commencing January 11, so now is the time to enrol children in trampolining, football, gymnastics or dance classes for great ways to keep children active after school.

Adult fitness classes include circuits, Zumba, Bokwa and Swoove, and have began at all Sport Eastbourne sport centres. Shinewater Sports Centre also hosts ‘Nifty Fifty’, a variety of classes designed for people over the age of 50. From badminton, table tennis, short mat bowls and walking football, there are plenty of activities to get stuck into this year.
