EASTBOURNE Soroptimists club has raised more than £2,000 for the new lifeboat appeal.

The women’s group raised £2,134.23 for Eastbourne RNLI with various activities including a guided walk around Alfriston, a garden party, barn dance, spelling bee and a concert in Hailsham Pavilion. At a presentation aboard Eastbourne’s new lifeboat Diamond Jubilee joint presidents Barbara Stanbury and Gloria Pearce presented a cheque to members of the lifeboat appeal team.

Barbara said, “We chose Eastbourne lifeboats as our charity because it is local to our club and also serves everyone in the community. We are particularly pleased that the money will go to our wonderful new lifeboat.”

And Gloria added, “We want to thank club members, their families and friends for their support during the year and also thank everyone who helped raise so much money for such an excellent cause.”
