Solo season at the Dev Park for one week
EASTBOURNE Theatres is holding a week of captivating one-person shows at the Devonshire Park Theatre (June 30-July 4).
There will be a mix of history, poetry, comedy and music, kicking off on June 30 (7.45pm) with Think No Evil of Us: My Life with Kenneth Williams, which is written and performed by David Benson.
This classic one-man show unlocks the character of one of Britain's best-loved and most-missed entertainers.
In this hilarious tour de force we see Kenneth Williams at his funniest – and at his most badly behaved.
Jan Ravens will be having A Funny Look at Impressions on July 1 (7.45pm).
Best known for impersonating a myriad of celebrities and public figures in Dead Ringers on both Radio 4 and BBC2, Jan Ravens makes her solo stage debut in this delightfully funny and revelatory show.
On July 2 (7.45pm), The World's Wife will be at the Devonshire Park.
Carol Ann Duffy's acclaimed poems, imagining life from the perspective of famous wives through the ages, is brought to the stage by Linda Marlowe.
From Mrs Faust and Frau Freud to Queen Kong and Mrs Midas, The World's Wife takes you through history and myth with a touch of dark humour, acerbic wit and comment.
This new show is a passionate expos that will enthral lovers of Duffy's poems and newcomers alike. My Grandfather's Great War, adapted and directed by David Benson, is on July 3 (7.45pm).
The show is a solo drama interweaving material from the First World War diaries of Captain Alexander Stewart with the contemporary reflections of his grandson, the actor Cameron Stewart.
Rounding off the week is David Benson Sings Noel Coward, written by David Benson with piano accompaniment by Stewart Nicholls.
Returning to the character he played in BBC series Goodnight Sweetheart, David Benson takes on Nol Coward's masterful songbook in this delightful evening of sparkling wit and humour.
