Eastbourne lifeboat rescued a solo yachtsman after he got into difficulties yesterday afternoon (September 11).

The yachtsman was preparing to enter Sovereign Harbour after crossing the English Channel from Boulogne when a stray rope became tangled around the boat’s propeller stopping the engine.

Unwilling to enter the narrow harbour entrance under sail alone Eastbourne Lifeboat crews were called to the scene.

After an uncomfortable trip against wind and tide the volunteer crew were soon on scene and towed the stranded nine metre vessel to the safety of the locks at Sovereign Harbour.
