AS THE Seaford Half Marathon approaches more than 60 soldiers are preparing to run in full kit in memory of a fallen comrade.
The Gazette reported last month how friends of Private Daniel Prior would be taking part in the event to raise funds for the 27-year-old’s baby son Logan.
Joining Chris Hearn and Jamie Linkson on Sunday June 5 will be soldiers from D Company 2 Para (the second battalion, Parachute Regiment).
Daniel, who was serving with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment and was based in Nahr-e-Saraj district, died on March 18 after being wounded by an improvised explosive device.
2 Para have recently returned from their tour of duty in Afghanistan. While enjoying home comforts his army colleagues have decided to run in the NP&S Lions half marathon in memory of the father-of-one, whose funeral took place in Eastbourne, and in order to raise funds for his wife Emily and son, Logan. Daniel joined the paratroopers, inspired by his uncle Steve Prior, who also served with 2 Para and gave his life in the Falklands conflict at the same age.
Daniel was a Peacehaven resident before joining the army. The former Tideway School pupil married Emily in October 2009 and he became a father to Logan on February 21 shortly before he died.
His family also include his father Ian, mother Gillian and twin brothers Adam and Lee who along with several of Daniel’s friends will also be running in his memory.
