AN EASTBOURNE soldier’s walk has netted just under £900 by walking from Eastbourne Pier to Brighton Pier.

Corporal Joseph MacQuire, together with friends and ex-paras Warren Pattison and Steven Holland, collected money as they walked across the Downs and Seven Sisters via Seaford.

They left Eastbourne Pier at 8.30am and arrived in Brighton just after 3pm.

Cpl MacQuire said, “The event went with no major hitches.

“We caused a traffic jam in Seaford, where the public would stop in the middle of the road to donate, and we battled on through a lot of cramps and thirst to make it to Brighton Pier.

Overall it was a very good day and the public were amazing.”

Cpl MacQuire is currently a serving soldier with the 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, in the British Army.

He has done a number of tours of duty, including Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Iraq, and is likely to be heading out to Afghanistan soon.
