AN EASTBOURNE soldier is to make his way on foot from Eastbourne to Brighton Pier next month to raise cash for Help for Heroes.

Corporal Joseph MacQuire, pictured, will set off from Eastbourne on the morning of Saturday May 14 and will fast walk and run the 24.3 miles with 35lbs of weight on his back.

His wife Donna said, “It is going to be a difficult and gruelling challenge, so any support from the public is most welcome and appreciated. Any donations to the charity should be placed at www.bmycharity.com/pier2pier, or alternatively they can come on the day to put money in the collection tins.”

Cpl Joseph MacQuire is currently a serving soldier with the 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, in the British Army. He has done a number of tours of duty, including Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Iraq, and is likely to head out to Afghanistan soon.
